Today started off kinda interesting. It seemed like more people than usual were staring or glancing at me than usual on the train today. I have no clue why. Maybe I was just more aware of my surroundings. There were also a pair of female students that were talking about me in Japanese while I was standing right next to them. I think that they thought I did not understand Japanese, so I saved them some embarrassment by not letting on that I could understand them. Also for a short while, they were trying to talk the other into talking to me. I found it quite amusing. Part way through, I smiled at one of them and her eyes went wide. I do not think I have ever seen someone quite so shocked. I said hi and they looked like they were about to faint. Was I really that scary? The girl I smiled at gave a very tiny bow then she and her friend giggled for a while. Then some random third student (male) turned around and said hi back to me really quietly. It was quite amusing. As I was getting off he train, I said "suimasen", or "excuse me" in Japanese and as I was getting off, I think I heard them debating if I knew Japanese or not.
I then had class, at the beginning, the teacher came up to me and asked me a few questions about American culture. It was totally unexpected, but nice to talk to my professor. After class, I went and grabbed lunch to eat in the lounge. After lunch I went to the US politics, we split into groups, and my group had a fantastic debate about the nuclear situation in Iran and what the best reaction would be.
After class, I went back to the lounge to hang out for an hour or two before heading home.
At home I spent most of the night doing homework and packing for a Niji-no-kai overnight event. My host mother also gave me a small package of candy for the bus ride, so nice of her!
good night
PS: Tonight, I was also convinced, by a friend (one of a group of high schoolers that came to Seattle over the summer) and her friend, to do a video chat with them for a while (about 45 minutes in total). I grabbed my phone and did it over that on a deck outside my house so I did not wake my host siblings or mom. It was cold, even with a jacket and gloves, but fun.
