Today was another free day.
I woke up at 8 and got breakfast. Afterwards, I went to Shibuya to get some money exchanged. I then walked along the Yamanote line from Shibuya to Meiji-jingu. I walked around that park for about an hour waiting for the rest of the class to arrive. The park was busy. There was a group practicing Soran-bushi, a group or people doing calisthenics, and many more groups whose activities I could not figure out without asking. There was also a group of people doing a mini Dragon Ball performance to raise funds for study abroad in Australia.
I got bored after two laps around the park and headed to the gift store. I browsed for about five minutes and got a text saying everyone was finally there. I joined the group and we walked around the shrine. Turns out that Meiji-jingu is very popular for weddings in the Shinto style, so was able to watch a few processions (the clothing is AMAZING!). We then talked to a random old guy who was very informed on history but seemed to be in support of nationalism, militarism, etc.
We left and everyone went to the Souvenir shop while I walked across the train tracks to Harajuku. There I met up with a few people again and we walked around a bit. Harajuku is a big fashion area, so lots of stores with two guys that love shopping. We went into one store and it became a game of dress up Cameron. I was given a scarf, a jacket, and gloves had my picture taken etc. They eventually convinced me to buy the jacket which I plan on wearing tomorrow. I will also try to put a bit of effort into getting some nice clothing. IT is not really my style, but Japan is the land of fashion. You would not believe how big it is here. Our prof even said that she dresses up here in Japan while in the US she wears jeans and a t-shirt often. I then returned to my dorm, stopping by a tullies for a snack (a pizza wrap). It was odd, I walked into the tullies and they said table for how may. It was a sit down restaurant version of tullies. Well, it was good. I ran back to my dorm then headed to the Shin-Urayasu mall for a homework assignment, the cultural observation where we sit for an hour observing our surroundings. I then returned to my dorm just to discover that I missed dinner, so I got niku-man from the nearby konbini. I have a bento breakfast already too since no meals are served on Sunday, it is sitting on my window sill to be kept cold.
I have been slacking a bit on talking to new people. my nerves have been getting the best of me, but tomorrow is a new day haha.
